How To Care For Your Human Hair Extensions While On A Beach Holiday

Beautiful long hair when teamed with an on-trend sexy swimsuit certainly gives you a touch of holiday glamour.  But how can you make sure that your human hair extensions stay in perfect condition from the moment you step onto the beach until the flight home?  Read on for some helpful tips.

Sun protection

Just as your skin needs protection from the damaging effects of the sun's UV rays, so does human hair.

The best way of protecting both your extensions and your scalp is by wearing a hat or a scarf.  However, if you want to avoid the dreaded curse of 'hat hair', try using a leave-in sun protection spray on your hair.  There's a chance that your extensions could become loose if oily substances come into contact with the tapes or micro-rings, so be sure to keep any protective spray on the hair length only.

In the water

If you want to cool off, you can safely take the plunge with human hair extensions.  However, it is a good idea to put your hair into a plait or ponytail in order to prevent the extensions from tangling.

If your human hair extensions have been coloured, especially blonde, be aware that chlorine and other pool chemicals may cause a greenish discolouration.  For this reason, you should always shampoo your hair after swimming, using a product that's formulated specially for getting rid of chlorine.

After the beach

After a day on the beach, shampoo your hair to get rid of sea salt, as well as tanning and hair product residue.  Following shampooing, it's also a good idea to use a deep conditioning moisturiser on your hair extensions.  This is particularly important for very long human hair extensions as it prevents breakage, splitting, and tangling.

As your hair will be exposed to the drying and potentially damaging effects of the sun, it's best to avoid too much blow-drying or using heated appliances, such as curling tongs or straighteners, in order to style your hair.

In a warm climate, human hair extensions will dry very quickly.  Long human hair extensions can look very glamorous when simply dried and styled naturally.  To do this, just apply a light styling product to your hair after washing while it's still damp, and then pop in some large, sponge rollers.  When the hair is almost dry, take out the rollers and use your fingers to carefully pull the hair extensions into luxuriant curls.  Finish your 'do' with a spritz of light fixing spray to hold it in place.
